The totally new innovative idea from Apple!

28/01/2010

Through the cloud of Physics revision that surrounds me I decides it was my duty to let you all know what I think of Apple’s latest achievement.

This was Apple’s worst kept secret, after finding out about this product a couple of months ago I decided to wait until it was properly revealed. And I’m glad I did.

The iPad  compliments Apple’s secret keeping by being one of the worst things to come out of a Jobs since Mrs. Jobs gave birth. With it’s ridiculous name and backward functions the iPad is a dissapointment to say the least. It is being hailed as innovative when really it is just a bigger/faster version of the iPhone. There are several things that I see wrong with this machine. The most important is multitasking. Like with the iPhone it is non-existant. When we buy a computer nowadays we excpect to be able to instant message and browse the Internet at the same time or at least listen to music. You may be thinking “But the iPhone can do that! Surely the iPad can as well?” wellll, I’m sorry to say this but apparantly it can’t. (Though that is not entirely confirmed yet – I’ll keep you updated). And the fact that it can’t multitask is really the only thing that makes me unhappy with the iPhone and is what’s preventing me from buying the iPad. I mean there are plenty of phones on the Market that do that why can’t the iPad do it?

One thing that I’m worried about is the devices inability to play flash movies. I mean the iPhone can’t will this new device be able to do that?

Yes, like always, I have to admit that it looks very nice and sleek and just plain beautiful like all Apple products, but the functions available leaves you wanting more. A lot more. Hopefully with upgraded models certain things will be taken care of/added (multitasking?) in the coming months as they’ve already scheduled the release of a 3G version around April which means anyone who buys one right now has no self-control.

I’ll keep you updated as best I can as my last exam till June is tomorrow. But feel free to leave any comments/opinions on the iPad below.

It’s been a while.

04/01/2010

Well I’ve been under a pile of books and paper tryng to dig myself out and finally there is a light at the end of this scholaristic tunnel. Exams are right around the corner and then after that I’m free! Well not really, only for about a month or two until preparation for my next set of exams begins.

Posting has become increasingly hard with my ever dying laptop losing another vital function; the spacebar no longer responds. So all my posts, until a replacement laptop is found, will be done from my iPhone using wordpress’s free app.

Well it’s been a while since I’ve updated so let’s take a look at what has happened since my last post. Well it’s 2010 so that means it’s the start of a new decade and nothing really worthy of note has happened yet. In 2009 however near the end the untimely death of Brittany Murphy had surprised everyone. A UCL graduate attempted to blow up a plane heading to Detroit from Amsterdam with a “cock-bomb” leading Yemen to become the new Iraq, or is it Afghanistan now? There are so many it’s hard to keep track now. The Burj hotel in Dubai has it’s grand opening today making it the tallest building in the world weighing in at a staggering half a mile tall. Soon you won’t have to be in a plane to join the mile high club. It includes the worlds highest restaurant, highest fountain, highest swimming pool and can be seen from 60 miles away.

I hope you folks can bare with me until all this is over or whenever I have over a minute or two to spare I’ll try and update. You can still follow all my activites on Twitter @thisismeari.

Thanks!

World Cup Draw

04/12/2009

Today the 8 South African World Cup groups were announced. Some groups are significantly easier than others while the group of death Brazil, Ivory Coast, Portugal and North Korea (not so much the last one but who knows, they havn’t qualified since the 60′s) is definitely a group worth watching. You can see the schedule HERE. All I know is that I can’t wait for next summer. Even though the World Cup won’t be the same without Russia.

Scrub up.

30/11/2009

Scrubs is probably one of my favourite US tv shows and it’s new season is airing tomorrow night on ABC. Finally after a long wait it’s here! Unfortunately there is no news of it airing in the UK as of yet but hopefully it will make it’s way over the Atlantic in time. Meanwhile you can watch the episodes 1 day late on TV Shack and on Surf The Channel. Personally I prefer TV shack but whatever it’s up to you. Apparantly JD, Turk and all the faces we have grown to love will make a couple of appearances in the beginning of the season but will eventually fade out leaving the new cast to find a way into our hearts. Either way I can’t wait for the 1 hour premiere that airs on ABC tomorrow at 9pm Central (whatever the hell that means). Feel free to tell me what you think of the episode/there being a new cast in the comments section below and as always you can hit me up on Twitter @thisismeari.

Davydenko claims ATP Title.

30/11/2009

After losing out to Djokavic last year Davydenko has done one better and won the ATP Masters tournament ending his season on an incredible high. He defeated Nadal and Federer on his way to the final where he easily beat del Potro 6-3 6-4. This is a great achievment for the Russian and it’s a remarkable way to finish his season. Congratulations Nikolay!

WHY!

22/11/2009

Wally-Hermes Yachts are awesome. The French Fashion House has teamed up with the Monaco Yacht maker to come up with this floating marvel. The WHY 58×38 (named due to its dimensions) is just beautiful. It comes with a 25 metre heated seawater swimming pool. The Yacht has solar panels which can provide at least 30% of the Yacht’s required energy. The designer even plans to install a Wind-turbine system. All I know is that as soon as I can, me and my girlfriend are buying ourselves one and sailing away. It might take a while though since the price tag will of this beauty will be in the range of £90million. Soon though, right Sabina?

There are some more photos on the website so definitely check them out.

We Shot the Moon.

16/11/2009

Hailing from San Diego, CA this sweet Indie Rock band have been all I’ve been listening to lately. So I thought it was only fair to share it with you guys. There’s not a great deal I can say about them as it stands but they have such happy music especially Bright Side (video below) and the vocals and instruments are really awesome. Also just to make things clear, when I say Indie Rock I mean good American Indie Rock not crap English Indie (there are some exceptions to that of course). Links to their myspace and site are below. Their latest album A Silver Lining is available to download off iTunes.

Epic Fail.

15/11/2009

This week the failure of the scientific world has suffered another setback. No I’m not talking about Twilight (talk about experiment gone wrong) but about the LHC; The Large Hadron Collider. For those of you who don’t know what the LHC is (again I’m talking to you Twilight fans), it’s a particle accelerator located underground in Geneva, Switzerland. The purpose of this machine is to accelerate particles really fast and then crash them into each other simulating a ‘big bang’. Using magic (science) they will be able to detect the traces of the Higgs Boson after it has decayed (it is very unstable). When it was about to come online for the first time almost a year ago the whole world was watching as it suffered its first of many failures. A helium leak that made the machine go offline for a long, long time.

This week a bird was flying by and dropped a bit of a baguette onto a piece of machinery somehow damaging it. The fault in the machine was obsereved by members of the public from the data published online. They noticed a rise in temperature and alerted the local media. Repairs are going on at the moment.

Douche.

There are several theories  as to why the LHC is such a massive, massive, failure. The most interesting, however, is that the Higgs Boson is so abhorrent to nature that it is actually TRAVELING BACK IN TIME to stop itself from being created. Yes, the particle is coming back in time to sabotage the machine. It sounds oddly like the making of a new Terminator Film.

Song of the Week.

15/11/2009

Well since I went to such an amazing concert this week my song of the week just has to be from one the artists. It was a tough decision whether to feature Laura Jansen or William Fitzsimmons. So I made my choice easier by featuring both! That’s right for the first time in this blog’s (short) history, there’s a double Song of the Week. The first is Jansen’s Wicked World. The song’s snazzy rhythm and interesting lyrics makes it stick out to me. Of course, like always, her voice is great in this one.

Now William Fitzsimmon’s song was a little harder to choose for he has so many to choose from. So I chose the one I like playing on the guitar most. When you were young is a very touching song about his brother. The guitar is very nice in this one and his voice is as soft as always.

The Links for the songs can be found in the sidebar as always so check them out. There’s no reason not to!

They both have albums out right now which can be found on amazon or iTunes so go ahead and buy them!

Shark Bite Saves Lives.

14/11/2009

Sometimes you hear stories that make you stop and go “WHAT?!” This is one of those stories. In Auckland, New Zealand at Kelly Tarlton’s Underwater World a shark was giving birth but there were a couple of complications. So another shark is swimming alone and I don’t know if the wailing of the shark or something else made him think “fuck this” and bite a huge chunk out of her stomach. This shark literally swam up to her, biting her on the side to give her a c-section.

Pictured: Most Awesome Surgeon. Ever.

He bit her with the right strength in the right place to save her life and the 8 pups’ lives! The link for the full story is below.
